1. System Restore (SR) [a.k.a. Windows File Protection (WFP)] service MUST be disabled/stopped BEFORE installing this Fix!

   How to disable/stop SR/WFP service:
   Run all these commands from a DOS console:
   NET STOP srservice
   NET STOP sr
   NET STOP "System Restore Service"
   NET STOP "System Restore Services"
   Or...
   Open Control Panel → System → System Restore tab → check the "Turn off System Restore on all drives" box → click OK → reboot.
   To reenable System Restore after installing this Fix (optional): open Control Panel → System → System Restore tab → Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore on all drives" box → click OK → reboot.
2. Create C:\TEMP (example) from a DOS console:
   MD C:\TEMP
3. Download wow32_2.dll [right-click to save!] into C:\TEMP .
4. Rename wow32_2.dll in C:\TEMP to WOW32.DLL from a DOS console:
   C:
   CD\TEMP
   REN wow32_2.dll WOW32.DLL
5. Exit/close/kill all NTVDM + WOWEXEC instances (if any) from a DOS console:
   TASKKILL /F /IM wowexec.exe
   TASKKILL /F /IM ntvdm.exe
6. Backup (rename) your original WOW32.DLL in %windir%\SYSTEM32 to WOW32ORI.DLL (example) from a DOS console:
   ATTRIB -H -R -S %windir%\SYSTEM32\WOW32.DLL
   COPY /Y %windir%\SYSTEM32\WOW32.DLL WOW32ORI.DLL
7. Copy WOW32.DLL in C:\TEMP to %windir%\SYSTEM32 and to %windir%\SYSTEM\DllCache from a DOS console:
   ATTRIB -H -R -S %windir%\SYSTEM32\WOW32.DLL
   ATTRIB -H -R -S %windir%\SYSTEM32\DllCache\WOW32.DLL
   COPY /Y C:\TEMP\WOW32.DLL %windir%\SYSTEM32
   COPY /Y C:\TEMP\WOW32.DLL %windir%\SYSTEM32\DllCache
   In case file access denied must use one of these Inuse/Unlocker/Replacer tools [free(ware)] to copy/rename/delete/move/etc locked system files, such as WOW32.DLL.
8. Reboot.
9. Delete C:\TEMP and its contents.

1. Open a DOS command console and run these 4 commands (press Enter after each line):

   NET STOP iaStorV

   Copy + paste text between cut & paste lines below in Notepad → save as AHCI_OFF.REG (example) → (double-)click on AHCI_OFF.REG to merge into Registry:

   This will stop the 4 hardware drivers (not all exist, depending on particular system configuration) that might interfere with Intel AHCI installation.
2. Run Intel Official Driver.
3. Reboot.
4. Press Del, Esc, F1, F2, F3, F4 or F8 (see your motherboard documentation for specific key) to enter BIOS setup.
5. Change settings below (if any) to match the values inside square brackets:
   SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [AHCI]
   SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode [Enabled]
6. Reboot again to Windows.
7. Windows should have activated your motherboard built-in Intel ICHx controller and found all your installed SATA hard + optical disks.
8. Open Control Panel.
9. Run "System Properties".
10. Click the "Hardware" tab.
11. Click "Device Manager".
12. Double-click "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers". You should see a new item: "Intel ICHx SATA AHCI Controller".
